Intelligent Mail® barcode (IMB) is a new barcode symbology employed by the USPS® for automatically processing mail pieces. Referred to as OneCode™ or the 4-State Barcode, IMB first became available in 2006. Today hundreds of mailers are taking advantage of this new invention. This new barcode offers more accurate and detailed information about mailings, plus participation in USPS special services that allow postal discounts, tracking of individual mail pieces, easier addresses correction, and more.
As one of the most significant postal changes in decades, the new standard based on IMB will take effect in May 2009, according to the final rules published by the USPS® in the August 19, 2008 Federal Register. In May 2009, mailers will have three barcode options: the Full-Service IMB, the Basic IMB and the current POSTNET™ barcode. When the next price changes are announced, it will include two prices: one for Basic IMB and POSTNET™, and a proposed lower price for Full-Service IMB that is likely to take effect in the fall of 2009. Effective in the fall of 2009, mailers will be required to use the full-service IMB to earn the greatest postage discounts.
As of version 1.31, Bar Code Pro Intelligent Mail Barcode includes POSTNET™ and PLANET™.

Bar Code Pro® IMB has been designed for creating IMB symbols in EPS format which may be imported into many layout design and printing tools for high quality printouts. The features will include the ability to change bar width reduction for print gain compensation. This product will be updated in the near future to include Information-Based Indicia (IBI), customized Code 128, Royal Mail Barcode (RM4SCC), and customized Code 93, for letters and flats, parcels, and unit load mail aggregates, and for mailing systems in foreign countries.
